Va. Tech fundraising campaign tops $1 billion

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A Virginia Tech fundraising campaign that began in 2003 has exceeded its goal of $1 billion.

University President Charles W. Steger announced results of "Campaign for Virginia Tech: Invent the Future" on Saturday. He told donors the campaign has taken in more than $1.1 billion in cash and pledges.

Steger told about 1,000 benefactors attending a banquet on campus that scholarships funded by donations make it possible for any student who can meet Virginia Tech's admissions criteria to attend "regardless of their resources."

During the planning phases, consultants told university officials to expect to raise no more than $800 million.
