7-year-old Joseph Layne found his mother Ginny in the kitchen, where she fell unconscious.
"The next thing I knew, wam. I was on the floor. It felt like such a hard hit,” said Ginny Layne.
Not missing a beat, he grabbed the phone and dialed 911.
Here’s a portion from that call:
Dispatcher: "Bedford 911, what's your emergency."
Joseph: "My mom is on the floor sick and we cannot help her and we do not know what to do."
Joseph: "Her whole body is vibrating."
Dispatcher: "Her whole body is shaking?"
Joseph: "yes."
Joseph: "She's bleeding. Somebody needs to come now."
Dispatcher Jeremy Gardener was on the other end of the line.
"I was just keeping him occupied, asking him questions, giving him simple tasks that he can complete and also at the same time getting the information we need,” said Gardener.
When the call came in to the 911 center, Gardener says he was surprised at how calm Joseph was.
"He was leaps and bounds beyond his age. He did an incredible job and was able to stay on point and communicate what was needed better than most adults,” said Gardener.
Joseph stayed on the line until the ambulance arrived.
Ginny has now made a full recovery from the bleeding ulcer doctors found in her stomach. She says thankful that this seven year old knew what to do during a crisis.
