Thousands take annual dash through Roanoke

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Thousands of people kicked off Thanksgiving Day with a dash.

The Roanoke Rescue Mission's annual "Drumstick Dash" took runners and walkers through downtown Roanoke this morning. 15,000 people were expected. You could see what seemed like that many snake through the streets. This is the mission's biggest fundraiser and just one of the reasons entire families came out to take part.

"This is my first year but my husband and his family come every year," said Lori Brown. "Most importantly, it's for the rescue mission and helping others on Thanksgiving Day and I won't feel bad about eating all that turkey."

The Drumstick Dash is a 5K run or walk.
