Before you head out to all of the fun there are some things you might want to take note of. For those driving to the festivities, streets you can expect to be closed on Friday nights include Campbell Avenue, Market Street, and Church Street. Salem Avenue will also be closed for the tree lighting this Friday evening. Jefferson street will be closed next week for the parade. And Market Street will be closed the last and final Friday of Dickens.
The next challenge is finding parking.
Rather than searching for the best spot, Sean Luther with Downtown Roanoke Inc. says the city has made it easy for you.
It is free to park in the Tower and Elm Wood park garage, and the city has extended free parking on Thursday nights as well
"We do encourage people to come down a little bit early there is lots going on before the parade and after the parade so come before and come after and certainly check it out," says Luther.
There are also some changes to the events this year.
The christmas tree has moved back to it's original spot on Salem Avenue.
And on the final Friday something new is happening- snow will blanket Market Street for free sledding.
"We are expanding and it is new but it is the same old Dickens," says Luther.
And it is something you won't want to miss this holiday season.
