DEA takes down marijuana growing operation in Hardy, Lynchburg

The DEA took down what its calling a significant marijuana growing operation based in the Hardy area of Franklin County, which supplied product to a dealer in Lynchburg court records claim.

Agents arrested John Eugene Sowers Jr. and Larry Scott Smith at a property in Hardy on August 30th.

A federal search warrant for the property claims agents confiscated 228 marijuana plants.

Agents also raided an address in Lynchburg on that very same day where they arrested Christopher Allen Usherwood.

Court papers claim Smith told investigators he was the producer and Usherwood said he was Smith's dealer in Lynchburg.

Court records show Sowers did not admit to growing the marijuana.
