Galax Police are trying to figure out what caused a man to drive into the path of a school bus on Thursday afternoon.
A spokesman for Police Chief Rick Clark said the crash took place around 3:30 p.m., on Middleton Street.
Officers believe 42-year-old Ruben Morris Christman, of Galax, was driving east on Middleton St., in a 2008 Kia, when he drove over the center line, and hit a 2000 International School Bus head-on.
Rescue crews had to pull Christman out of his car, and take him to Twin County Regional Hospital. Police say Christman had visible injuries to his head and face.
Officers say one student on the bus was also taken to the hospital, after complaining of chest pain.
Police tell us seven other students were on the bus, and each were taken home by Galax City Schools workers.
Officers charged Christman with reckless driving, for failing to drive on the right side of the road.
