Roanoke Police Academy recruits hit the Greenway

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Roanoke Police Academy is taking their training a step further.

Recruits have been running the greenways a few times a week. Officers say the exercise is more than physical training.

"As we're running across streets, the bridges, we quiz them about the location," said Loren Ford, an investigator with the academy.

Ford says this allows the recruits to become familiar with the areas they will one day serve. Ford says it also increases police presence on the greenways.

"Parts of the greenways are visible to the public, while some areas are not as visible. It's important for the community to see us," said Ford.
