SALEM, Va. -- Except for Thanksgiving, Americans eat more food on Super Bowl Sunday than any other day of the year -- and one of the hottest things on the menu is wings.
According to the National Chicken Council, Americans will eat more than 1.25 billion wings this weekend. That's more than 100 million pounds of the popular poultry piece.
To put that in perspective, if you were to lay the wings end-to-end, there would be enough of them to circle the circumference of the Earth more than two times.
Lots of folks in Salem got their wing fix Sunday afternoon, picking up orders left and right from Buffalo Wild Wings' Wingmobile. They say it's not Super Bowl Sunday without them.
"You're watching football, you're with your guy friends, and you've gotta eat something," said Charlie Mosher, who was picking up wings. "You might as well get something that gets your hands absolutely filthy. It's just a good time for everyone."
Not surprisingly, industry experts say sales of antacids are expected to skyrocket 20 percent on Monday.
