An Evington woman died following a Monday morning car crash where she turned left out of a shopping center onto Wards Road without a green light, Lynchburg police said.
The crash happened in the 4000 block of Wards Road shortly after 10 a.m.
Imogene Young McMillan, 62, was trying to turn left out of the Wards Crossing Shopping Center, where Target is located. As she pulled out, her 2009 Honda Civic was hit in the driver’s side door by a 2004 Ford truck, said Lynchburg Police Officer Ronnie Sitler.
McMillan was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital where she later died.
Police identified the truck’s driver as Gary Vaughan, 58, of Madison Heights. He was not injured in the wreck.
Sitler said no charges will be filed as a result of the crash.
Traffic was reduced to one lane in the southbound direction for about three hours, he said.
The crash remains under investigation.
