Roanoke City staff believes it can upgrade or build more libraries

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Roanoke City leaders said they've seen great benefit in library expansion and renovation, so they want to expand some more.

City staff asked Roanoke City Council to initially consider a plan that would build a new branch library as part of the planned development area in the Countryside community.  The cost would be around $2.6 million.

City leaders had been planning to spend approximately $13 million on two library projects over the next few years.

But city staff told council they could do six projects, including a new Countryside branch, for the same amount of money.

Roanoke City Council started the process of considering its fiscal year 2013 budget.
