So-called "synthetic" or "fake marijuana" is causing concern in Franklin County.
The Sheriff's Department tells us they are working to educate the community, after getting several calls from parents.
Lt. Todd Maxey tells us there has even been an increase in 911 emergency calls related to these types of products.
"We are doing what we can to educate people. It can be very dangerous," said Lt. Maxey. "We are finding people are consuming the product or smoking it. It's causing some to have symptoms like vomiting, an increased heart rate and cramping."
Virginia does have a ban on some of these products, but not all. Maxey encourages parents to educate themselves about these products and the dangers.
