When Lindsey Harless went to bed Friday night, she hoped she would wake up to a Wytheville covered in white. But when she went to work Saturday morning, all she got was a few flurries and barely dusted bushes.
"I thought there would be at least an inch of snow," said Harless. "I was hoping for a little bit more."
She says the snow has been lacking this winter and wishes Mother Nature would get more in check with the season.
"I still have that inner child that wants to see a considerable amount each winter," said Harless.
While that wasn't the case Saturday, Wytheville wasn't the only place in Southwest Virginia where the snowfall was lackluster. Pulaski County looked like it was hardly touched and Giles County only tallied a half inch. The snow was a little heavier throughout Bland County, but did not stick to the roads.
About the only place we could find enough snow that people were having to clear it was across the West Virginia border in Bluefield.
"You get into the main body of Virginia and you really haven't seen much," said Storm Team 10 Meteorologist Patrick McKee.
McKee spent most of Saturday morning and afternoon tracking the system. He says overnight temperatures stayed above freezing, which in turn caused most of the snow to melt before or when it hit the ground.
"We're stuck in this pattern where temperatures have been staying above normal," said McKee. "When we do get the moisture in here, it's 50 degrees. Getting the moisture and cold in here has been a hard thing to do this year and will probably continue as a trend for the rest of this winter."
Harless is still holding out, though, for the day this year when she does wake up to snow in Wytheville.
"It's fun to play in it, sit home and drink hot chocolate, and just enjoy it," said Harless.
