A Pittsylvania County man is facing a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol after a Monday afternoon wreck on the Danville Expressway near Holland Road.
John Joseph Beckelheimer, 46, was traveling north in a 2006 Nissan pickup at about 3:30 p.m. when he crossed the median, struck a 1999 Ford pickup driven by a 70-year-old Lynchburg man and then flipped over, according to a news release from the Danville Police Department.
Both drivers were taken to Danville Regional Medical Center.
Beckelheimer was then airlifted to Roanoke for further treatment.
“Due to ongoing medical treatment he was issued a summons before he was airlifted to Roanoke and will be arraigned at a later date,” according to a news release.
Both drivers were reported to be in stable condition, the release stated.
The investigation is continuing.
