Roanoke City middle-schooler wins 3rd spelling title

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A Roanoke City middle-schooler wins his third city-wide spelling title.

8th grader Elijah Martin correctly spelled "fluoride" for the win.  The word that tripped up second place finisher Gabriel Scott was "leniency".

This is Elijah's third straight Roanoke Spelling Championship and his mother is so proud.  He tells us he got help from everyone in preparing for the contest.

“Mostly from studying with my mom and sister, they helped me out.  I had the support of my teachers and my friends from Breckinridge,” said Elijah.

Elijah will compete in the regional round in March, where he's finished in sixth place the past two years.
