After a cold and wintry first week of 2012, most ski resorts are operating on normal day and night hours.
With 15 inches of snow falling so far in 2012, Snowshoe's snowmaking and grooming team has been working hard. They opened 11 more acres Thursday bringing the total to 111 acres. They expect to have daily expansions through Saturday inlcluding Cupp Run. The average base there is between 24 and 48 inches with 36 trails open and 12 lifts.
Wintergreen has 8 slopes open with an average base of 15 to 30 inches. Massanutten has an average base 20 to 30 inches and 7 trails open.
Winterplace currently has 17 of 27 trails open with a snow base of 16 to 34 inches. They're also planning on opening their snowtubing Saturday at 9 A.M.
Finally, if The Homestead is your destination this weekend, they have a 18 to 50 inch base and 4 slopes open plus their outdoor rink is ready for skating.
With the colder temperatures around most resorts have been making snow in addition to the natural that fell earlier in the week. There could also be a few flurries this weekend but, significant accumulations are not expected at this time.
