A large fire ripped through a convenience store in Troutville early Sunday morning, leaving a Lee Highway business badly damaged.
Virginian Markette owner Gregg Stump tells WSLS he got a phone call around 4:20 a.m. that his alarms were going off. When he got to the store, he says the building was fully engulfed.
Fire crews were already on scene and he says it took hours to get the flames put out.
The cause is under investigation.
"I'm pretty empty today, but it could have been worse I guess, so we'll just wait until tomorrow and see what happens", said Stump.
An insurance agent will go through the business Monday. If it's a total loss, Stump says he plans to tear it down and build a new store.
