Our story on the VA Hospital in Salem and one veteran's trouble getting prescriptions refilled, sparked a conversation on our Facebook page and this email from KP Waterman who defended the VA.
Waterman wrote: "As a veteran who has used the Salem VA since 2002, my stance is our VA is top notch. I have had no problems with the automated prescription line and am prone to believe that the problem may lie with the person using the service."
Another viewer doesn't think we show enough respect in our promotions.
Michael Mikulicic emailed, "I think it’s pretty disgusting that you guys can advertise 2 teenage girls death for the news, then say "on a lighter note" in the same breath to promote something with the Girl Scouts. How about some tact. You should be ashamed of yourself." (Michael Mikulicic)
WSLS responds: Thanks for the email. This can be a very difficult line for us. We report on the news and sometimes that is tragic news including the death of the teenage girls. At the same time, we make a big effort to also report on many of the good things happening in our communities. Those stories, from the girl scouts to our schools to our neighborhoods, warrant just as much coverage. Does that sometimes make for a difficult transition? Unfortunately yes, but both stories are newsworthy and have a place in our promotions and newscasts.
Finally, Katherine Grimes emailed a complaint about a paid program that airs on the weekend.
She wrote, "I wake up to Dawn Jeffries Monday through Friday. Today, I woke up instead to the racist, sexist, bigoted diatribe of Jon Thomas of "Friendship" Baptist Church. You might say that you don't necessarily support his views, but you sold him a platform. Please watch the tape of that show and have the decency to cancel that platform and publicly apologize."
WSLS responds: Thanks for the note. We've passed it along to management.
