Chatham man makes national TV debut on 'American Pickers'

A Pittsylvania County man is enjoying his 15 minutes of fame after being featured on an episode of the hit reality series “American Pickers” this past Monday night.

To say Henry Burnett likes old stuff would be an understatement.

“I’ve done it all my life,” said Burnett.  “A lot of people don’t even know what it is when you’re looking at it, but I just think it’s really interesting.”

So when he caught “American Pickers” – a reality show all about collecting old stuff – he became an instant fan.  So much so, he e-mailed them about his collection.  Much to his delight, the show's prodcuers called him back, and brought two of the stars to his home in Chatham last summer.

“Everywhere I went, people I didn’t even know were asking me when is your show gonna be on?” said Burnett.

Monday night, the episode that featured him aired on the History Channel.

“I enjoyed it,” said Burnett.  “It was real interesting.  It looked like they captured the biggest portion of what they bought.”

Stars Mike Wolfe and Danielle Colby Cushman had a field day going through the trailers where he stores his stuff, buying things like a porcelain sign, a rope cutter, and an unusual tool box with spikes on it.

“Danielle loved it,” said Burnett.  “When she sat down on top of those spikes, I didn’t know what to think.”

He also wasn’t sure what to think when he had to do two, three, and four takes walking in and out of the trailers with the pickers.

“I’ve had those trailers for years,” said Burnett.  “I ain’t never walked n and out of them that many times in a day.”

He says, though, it was well worth it.

“I got a good return on my money,” said Burnett.  “And like I said, it’s just so much fun dealing with them.”

When asked if he missed any of the items he sold to the pickers, Burnett laughed and said he’s still got plenty of old things left in his trailers.  One thing he does miss though is working with the crew.

“I’d love to have them come back and do it again,” said Burnett.  “They’d be more than welcome.”
