The tax credit Virginia gives to wineries would be doubled under a bill approved Friday by a House subcommittee.
Del. Scott Garrett, R-Lynchburg, sponsored HB 1194 which would allow farm wineries and vineyards to claim a tax credit up to $500,000 for equipment they purchase after Jan. 1, 2013.
The bill is similar to one Garrett sponsored last year, initiating a $250,000 tax credit for wineries.
