The High Ground Vinton-Roanoke County Veterans Monument is a little closer to being paid off. It was built six years ago to honor veterans past and present from all wars.
The Virginia Fraternal Alliance presented a check today for $3,200.
The organization raised money through a dinner and annual golf tournament.
"The reason we're standing here is because the people that are on this wall gave their lives so we could stand here" says Scott Koebel, the Virginia Fraternal Alliance President. The state organization governs all fraternal groups like Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of the Police and Woodman of the World.
There is still about $30,000-$40,000 to raise before the $400,000 loan can be paid off.
