3.2-magnitude aftershock rattles central Va.

The U.S. Geological Survey says a 3.2-magnitude aftershock occurred at 6:39 p.m. Monday about 6 miles southwest of Mineral and 5 miles south of Louisa.

Richmond, Va. --

A magnitude 3.2 aftershock struck near Mineral on Monday evening, one of the stronger aftershocks to hit since summer's 5.9 temblor.

The quake hit 10 miles southeast of Mineral about 6:40 p.m. and was felt as far away as Lake Ridge and Montclair.

There have been more than 100 aftershocks since the rare Aug. 23 earthquake that toppled buildings in Louisa County and damaged the Washington Monument and National Cathedral in D.C.

While aftershocks following a major earthquake can go on for more than a year, the temblors had slowed down since December, and most were magnitude 2.5 or less.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded a magnitude 2.5 aftershock on Jan. 18, then another 1.7 magnitude on Saturday night around 9 p.m.

There were no immediate reports of damage from Monday's aftershock.
