Two new music acts are in, but a longtime favorite is out for the upcoming Festival in the Park in Downtown Roanoke.
EventZone executive director Larry Landolt announced Tuesday morning, that "1964 The Tribute Band" would not be playing at the Memorial Day weekend event. The band had been a mainstay of the festival for the past 14 years.
Landolt told WSLS that the main reason for the decision was economics, saying the festival wanted to invest more money in some biggers acts over the weekend to help grow the event.
The new acts coming this May: 1990s pop rock band "Gin Blossoms," and country music performer Craig Morgan.
The Gin Blossoms are best known for their 1992 hit "Hey Jealousy."
Morgan had Billboard Magazine's #1 Country hit for 2005 with "That's What I Love About Sunday." His My Kind of Livin' album is his best seller, and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has given it "gold" status.
EventZone executive director Larry Landolt said he missed out on signing Grace Potter and Nocturnals at the last minute, after the group signed a deal with another city that paid them more money.
Landolt stressed that this year's event will be a more "community driven" event, promising that festival goers will see things that they've never seen before.
