State Police blame a tractor trailer driver running a red light, for a deadly crash in Roanoke County Tuesday afternoon.
Sergeant Robert Carpentieri, of State Police's Salem Division, says the crash took place around 12:14 p.m., on the northbound Interstate 81 exit ramp onto Route 419.
61-year-old David Ray Allen, of Christiansburg, was in a 197 Toyota on the off-ramp, waiting for the traffic light to the green, according to Sgt. Carpentieri. When the light changed, Allen turned onto Rt. 419, and was hit by a 2007 International tractor-trailer, being driven by 57-year-old Marvin Lee Vlastuin, of Roland, Oklahoma.
Troopers say Vlastuin ignored a red light, and was charged with disregarding a red light.
Sgt Carpentieri said Allen was not wearing a seat belt when the crash happened.
No additional information was available as of Tuesday night.
