Salem Police tell us Scott surrendered at a local hospital, after being treated for minor injuries.

Officers took Scott into custody around 3:50 p.m., and then taken to the Roanoke County/Salem Jail.  Scott is being held without bond.

The young man wanted in connection with a hit and run murder in Salem early Saturday morning, October 11th, has turned himself in to police.

Defense attorney Deborah Caldwell-Bono says Shaun Scott turned himself in Sunday morning.  Caldwell-Bono is representing Scott.

Caldwell-Bono tells WSLS that Scott’s side of the story will show what happened was a “terrible accident.“

Salem Police say Scott got in a Jeep, and sped through the crowded parking lot of the Awful Arthur’s on West Main Street, around 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning.  A Salem officer says he saw the Jeep hit and kill 23-year-old Zane Blakenship.

Scott faces charges of:

  • 1 count first degree murder
  • 2 counts attempted malicious wounding
  • 4 counts felony hit and run
  • 1 count felony property damage

I agree…I dont understand how anyone would want to justify any of this.  It is a shame that people have anything to say in Shaun’s defensive.  I did not ever meet Zane but, I feel more people like myself should be standing up for him.  I have been shocked by the people who say things to defend Shaun…..if you read what they say it proves Shaun is telling lies!!  Shaun’s own friends are saying a different story than his?!  Im sorry if I was a bit defensive myself it was towards the rediculous comments from “antsuzanne”!!  I pray for the family and friends and hope there is some justice found.

LMKR I was not trying to imply that there wasn’t an altercation. I do not know if there was or not. I was curious to see if the other poster knew something we didn’t. You have proven a valid point lets hope that everything turns out in favor of justice. I was defensive because I did not appreciate someone trying to degrade Zane over his brothers actions. Zane was loyal to his family & friends and that does not make him a bad person. RIP Zane

Well, I never said there was a “fight” between Zane and Shaun but, they did have words towards one another before Shaun decided to run away and jump in his jeep…..I dont think anyone who is wanting Zane’s family to have justice has thought about this clearly.  It is important the truth is told.  They did have words and that is why what Shaun did was 1st degree Murder.  If people keep trying to say other-wise all that is doing is helping Shaun.  Think about it..that gave motive for what Shaun did.  If Shaun gets his way and has everyone believe neither of them were in an arguement(wich they were), that will just have the judge to believe it was an accident.  IT WAS NOT!!!!I know Zane’s friends think they are defending him but, why do you think Shaun’s lawyer is trying so….hard to stress they knew nothing of each other???!!!  She knows if it is proven(and IT WILL BE)they had a verbal arguement, the judge will see exactly why Shaun ran him down!!  I am defending Zane.  I cant wait till it all comes out and Shaun is someones girlfriend in jail…I just wish people would see that they are only hurting Zane’s chance at justice by saying they had no arguement. I know they did and so does Salem Police Detectives and several others that are witnesses so, lets just pray Justice is done for Zane and his family. Oh, and by the way, NO ONE CARES ABOUT COLBY’S CHARGES!! If Colby having charges makes Zane guilty I guess Shaun’s family is all guilty of Murder???!!!Dosent make sence does it?! That is how much sence it makes to bring up Colby and his mistakes having ANYTHING to do with Zane. IT DOSENT!!!

CW if you don’t give a crap then why are posting comments about it. Stop commenting on things you don’t know about. Zane was a wonderful person and did not deserve to die. Leave this family alone they have been through enough without your stupidity.

And from which “family member” did you get your information from? And how do you KNOW with certainty that they were even involved in a fight? Unless you were there you will never know. Doesn’t matter…  bottom line is Zane was murdered. No justification for MURDER!

oh, I’m sorry. I mispelled his name because I couldn’t give a crap about him.The point is brothers will fight for brothers. And we ALL know that these guys weren’t just standing on the sidewalk checking their watches when it happened. They were all involved!

Who is Cody? Do you mean Coby? Who was killed…  ZANE not Coby! Coby’s actions or past does not warrant the right for Shaun to kill Zane. Zane is dead because Shaun killed him. Shaun is a murderer and he must pay!

I like how everybody talks about how innocent and sweet these guys are , when after talking to one of Cody’s own family members who said “Cody starts fights everywhere he goes”.
What a sweet guy.

I sincerely hope that the Commonwealth of VA will not accept any plea bargains and will set an example of him. Teach the younger generation that drinking and driving is not tolerated and shall not be used as an excuse for killing another human being because it so called “impaired” the ignorant scum of a person’s ability to make the right decisions. He knew what he was doing (why else would he have ran?) and he should pay the consequences even if it means with his own life, in my opinion. I will never forgive him.

Well, I have been reading everyones comments on this entire situation and I had to just say a few things.  First off I was not there but, do know a few FACTS on the situation.  I chose to talk with a family member (who knew neither Shaun, Zane or their friends) of mine who WAS there and getting into their car parked near this jeep and might I add it is a jeep with 4 doors and FULLY ENCLOSED! so, NO-ONE could have harmed or even touched him.  I had read a comment that someone made saying he(Shaun)may have been speeding b/c someone wanted to grab him out of his open jeep or something.  NOT POSSIBLE!! no one was after him or wanting to harm him!!  OH, or BANK him!!!!  REDICULOUS how the ones of you saying these crazy thing actually believe them.  I can NOT BELIEVE anyone(even this guy Shaun) could sleep at night saying it was an accident!  It was FAR from an accident. The person I know (who by the way also told police it was NOT AT ALL AN ACCIDENT and is VERRRRRY SURE of that)has given statements that will make sure the courts know that!  This guy Shaun was at a speed of 40mph or so…IN A PARKING LOT!!!! FOR GOODNESS SAKE…does that sound like an ACCIDENT??!!! He even drove away from his parking space to get further away and build up SPEED!!! Does that sound like an accident?? Oh, and he was close to several other exits and turned around in order to go back and purposely hit Zane and try to hit a few others while at it!! I know myself that I have stopped after running over a small animal.  This guy did NOT STOP after he hit& KILLED a young man!!!  He then ran from police until he felt time to turn himself in.  Oh, and thinks he has the right to have a lawyer say it was an accident!!  I wonder if it were one of her(his lawyer) family members that were KILLED this way if she could say it were an ACCIDENT!!!  Oh, and I forgot to mention the fact that this guy was DRUNK DRIVING!!  I guess no-one will ever know HOW drunk because he camped out somewhere till it was out of his system and he thought about his lies and how he could get himself out of this mess!  I do not understand how he MADE ARRANGEMENTS to turn himself in???!!!Is that how it works?  I dont understand how he makes the calls on the way things are done or his LAWYER!  Where are the police when this call is made?  Do they just answer and say o.k….whenever you are ready???  I would think when you MURDER someone in this manner you would be found and not be able to make an appointment for when you MEET THE POLICE AT THE HOSPITAL!!! oh, and as far as Zane being a trouble maker…NOT AT ALL!!!!maybe you should check out what people who did know him say about him.  He was a good man.  Zane did NOT get in trouble and whatever his brothers did (and I am SURE none of his brothers have commited MURDER) he had no control over!! but, even if he was a troubled person(which he WAS NOT)how does that give anyone the right to take his life???? If you are going to say stupid things (that by the way have NOT been in any information given out) just read whats posted and dont make up stories and post them to start rumors that may hurt people . Unless you were there and seen him starting trouble(which I am sure you did NOT because it DID NOT HAPPEN)you should do a little work to find out some facts and then make a decision!!  Oh, and Shaun’s so called “story” will not be a good enough lie to stand up against an entire parking lot full of people(one who was a police officer)that watched him kill a good man and DRIVE AWAY!! Like I said, I was not there but, have spoke with an eye witness who has no connection to either party so, has NO REASON to lie.  I just dont think anyone could see this as anything other than what it was….cold blooded MURDER!!!
