About 230 employees of Genworth Financial in Lynchburg are losing their jobs, a Genworth spokesman said this morning.
The company announced in December that it would eliminate about 1,000 positions from its global workforce. It notified affected employees this week. Most affected workers were told on Thursday.
Al Orendorff, spokesman for Genworth, said that 230 employees are being laid off in Lynchburg, which is about 16 percent of Genworth’s local workforce of 1,400; 390 in Richmond (its corporate headquarters are in Henrico County); 45 in Raleigh; 200 at various international locations; and a total of 135 in other locations.
Not all workers were let go immediately. Some will stay on with the company, with their full pay, as they complete projects. Employees will receive pay and some benefits during a severance period based on the length of time they have worked with the company.
