Two men facing charges after police chase

Two men are facing charges tonight after Lynchburg police officers pull over a car and a chase began.
It happened in the 3800 block of Campbell Avenue around 8:49 p.m. Thursday night. Police say they pulled over a car driven by 38-year-old James Jones Jr. of Amherst with 46-year-old James Higginbotham of Amherst inside. Police say during the traffic stop, Jones got out of the car and took off. Then Higginbotham drove the car away.
Officer tried to catch up to the car in the Fairview Square Shopping Center. Before police were able to catch up, the car went through the intersection of Florida and Campbell Avenues and hit a car belonging to Lynchburg Community Services. Lynchburg Fire and EMS crews responded to the scene. Jones and the driver of the Community Services vehicle were treated on the scene and taken to Lynchburg General Hospital. Police tell us they are in stable condition Thursday night.
Police charged Jones with Driving During Suspension, Felony Eluding Police, Driving Under the Influence of an Intoxicant - 2nd Offense, Failure to Pay the Uninsured Motorist Fee and Possession of Cocaine. Jones’ passenger, James Higginbotham, was arrested and charged with being Intoxicated in Public.
