Library cat may be forced to check out
The Pulaski County Humane Society is fighting to help a friendly feline.
“Belle” has been a member of the Dublin library staff for three years now.
It’s where she lives, but the library board is considering kicking her out after receiving at least two verbal complaints.
The concerns range from people with allergies to the cat being a possible liability.
The humane society has started a petition to keep “Belle” at the library and already has more than 400 signatures.
The library board is expected to decide “Belle’s” fate at the next meeting which will be held on May 26.

Concerning the water fountain, remove the fountain, everyone carries their own bottles with them and who wants to drink where a sick child has sucked onto the metal where the water shoots out or touch the paddle where nasty hands have been god knows where. There are germs and allergens are everywhere in public spaces - EVERYWHERE. The books that have been checked out to households that smoke or to sick individuals hold more disease and allergens than any regularily brushed cat does! Do your research - allergens are carried into the library and into our schools by people that have pets at home and there are plenty that do! I would have no problem eating in a restaurant that has pets and HAVE. Go to a large city and experience this OFTEN. Many coffee shops and restaurants are pet friendly to attract customers. It is not a detration, quite the opposite. I have pets at home and eat w/them around, they are not banished - what is the difference ?? I haven’t died yet OR caught any diseases. Why are 1 or 2 so selfish. There are many kids and others that can not have pets and this is a wonderful experience for them, can people not understand that for many this may be their only source of companionship? I know it’s a library, but it’s unique and special - god forbid we do anything unique in Pulaski County, because a few sourpusses have to go overboard and whine about someone elses joyful experience.
just to clear up the water fountain issue, Belle does not have 24/7 access to it. a product has also been purchased and used (with success) to keep Belle from getting on the water fountain.
thats the problem with people right now i can’t even post an honest comment without being attacked personally.. well for you have a great day…i did not attack anyone its just not sanitary period, would you also eat in a restaurant that had a cat that lived in it?? just asking
I also pay taxes and I think the cat should stay and YOU should go. No wonder people like animals more than other people. I know I already like the cat better than you.
I say get rid of the cat. The library is no place for it. I am allergic, I also have asthma, so I myself wouldn’t be able to go into the library.My tax money helps keep it open, and who wants to drink out of the water fountain where a cat has been drinking? Thats just nasty…They may sanitize the water fountain most of the time, but you know there is no way they can do it everytime unless there is someone there 24/7 watching the water fountain…I say BY BY CAT
I hope they don’t listen to a couple whiney butts ! I myself am allergic to cats and have 2. I hope they keep the cat, I’m sure the cat provides pleasure to more than the 2 idiots complaining. To the 2 complaining… go buy a book ! Stay at home and be miserable to yourself.. What ever happened to SUCK IT UP !!! Everyone now whines about everything. Keep the cat.. get rid of the jerks !
