Richard Hughes is the State Trooper Steven Branscome is accused of shooting.
We talked to Trooper Hughes on the phone Sunday evening. Hughes tells us about the moment he heard Branscome had been caught in Texas.
“Particularly this last week, I’d just been waiting for that call that he’d been captured.“, said Hughes. “I knew that they had been tracking him and we were close to catching him.“
“I was called about three o’clock in the morning and heard he was captured in Texas, by the U.S. Marshal Service.“, says Hughes.
“I didn’t have to think about him being out there, or wanting to go out to Floyd in case he was still there.“, says Hughes. “Just be able to relax a little bit and be able to focus on your job and the everyday work.“
“My family’s all real relieved he’s captured, and he’s not going to have the potential to hurt anybody else or any other law enforcement or innocent civilians.“, says Hughes.
Trooper Hughes tells us he has numbness in part of his neck from nerve damage from the gunshot wound. He says he doesn’t know if it’s permanent.
