It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at The Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM).  VCOM students, faculty and staff played “Santa” this year for the residents of Warm Hearth Village Retirement Community in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Karol Gordon D.O., Department Chair of Geriatrics at VCOM and geriatric physician at Warm Hearth, spearheaded this effort.  Dr. Gordon asked Warm Hearth staff to fill out a gift tag request for each resident, listing items they felt the resident would like to receive, noting sizes and favorite colors.  The tags were hung on the Christmas tree in VCOM’s lobby as ornaments over the past two weeks and students and faculty selected the paper ornaments and purchased gifts for each request.  The wrapped and tagged gifts were provided to over 100 residents of Warm Hearth on Monday, December 22!

VCOM medical students volunteer and do required educational clinical rotation under the preceptorship of Dr. Gordon at Warm Hearth Village Retirement Community.

VCOM is located in the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center and is the first medical school collaborative partner of Virginia Tech.
