If not for charges in Floyd County, Jeffrey Young might be a free man.

Acquitted late Thursday night on charges of involuntary manslaughter, and leaving the scene of an accident involving the death of former Roanoke attorney Tom Farrell, the judge could not release Young since he has never been granted bond on several charges in Floyd County.

Just two days after the Farrell hit and run, Young is accused of running down a grocery store clerk in a Floyd County parking lot.

Witnesses said he then started beating her with a stick.

Police said Young did not know the clerk.

Young is also charged with fighting at least one Floyd County sheriff’s deputy.

A deputy pepper sprayed him in order to make the arrest.

The prosecution in Roanoke County subpoenaed the store clerk to testify in the Farrell murder case, but the judge would not allow it.

A state psychiatrist found Young legally insane during the Floyd County incident.

His attorney in the Floyd County charges has filed the necessary paperwork to ask for an insanity defense.

Young’s trial is set to begin October 26th.
