Thursday morning’s fire at Cabin Lake has been ruled an arson, Danville Assistant Fire Marshal Richie Guill reported. Firefighters responded to the fire shortly before 4 a.m. Thursday morning, where first-arriving units reported heavy fire at 100 Cherokee Court.
The fire started on a deck outside the structure. Either a white male or a light-skinned black male wearing dark clothes and possibly a white hood was seen leaving the area just before the fire was discovered. That suspect was last seen walking toward Piney Forest Road.
At 7:30 a.m., Thursday, Danville Fire Capt. F.G. Ferguson issued a news release that said there was moderate damage to the complex, which was unoccupied and under renovation at the time of the fire. Damage estimates have since been updated to “heavy.“
No injuries have been reported.
