A:  A mammogram is the gold standard for detecting breast cancer.  Early detection is the key to a positive outcome with breast cancer or any other form of the disease.

The Susan G. Komen For The Cure Foundation has a local affiliate in Roanoke that is helping women in our area get the mammograms they need but can’t afford or don’t have immediate access to.

Recently, the organization gave money to 7 different agencies in its 19 county coverage area to help provide breast cancer screenings in our area.  To get help finding mammogram services in your area log on to Roanoke’s Komen affiliate (link below) and click “contact us” then, e-mail your question and location.  Someone with the organization will find a location near you.
