A local pilot helps fly patients to get medical need when they can't get there on their own
WSLS 10 On Your Side Health Team is talking with a local young woman who was able to get to cancer treatment many miles away because of Angel Flight pilot, Tom Beheler and John D’Alessandro. There are several different locations in Virginia with pilots who help patients get to their medical destinations for free.
Several local pilots are helping patients get to the medical care they need when they can’t do it on their own.
Brooke Smith is one local patient who was able to make the trip to Boston for a cancer treatment clinical trial because of Tom Beheler and John D’Alessandro who are part of the Angel Flight Program.
Pilots in the program volunteer their time, skill and cover the cost of the flight.
Brooke says, “He called me a week before I had to leave I was like… oh man… that was um a God send.“
So many different kinds of patients benefit from the missions Angel Flight pilots volunteer for.
Tom says, “We also do transplant patients those type of patients have about four or five hours to get to the hospitals.“
