Finding help for Fibromyalgia in the Roanoke Valley

Cinda Crawford spent nearly 20 years suffering and now during her weekly pod-casts she shares information about the condition that once ruled her life.

She says she got better through a number of different ways.  She changed her diet and tried to get exercise like warm water pool therapy.

If you like that coffee in the morning or soda in the afternoon know that both can be triggers.

Lewis Gale Physician’s Dr. Joseph Lemmer says, “Caffeine overuse the stories about NutraSweet and refined sugars and nightshades all that is absolutely unproven scientifically the only real connection may be with caffeine which disrupts your sleep.“

According to the National Fibromyalgia Association some nightshades or highly acidic foods such as tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, and peppers may trigger muscle pain for some patients.

Crawford says, “I was deficient in magnesium and calcium those things helped me and helped alleviate a lot of my muscle pain…

While supplements helped cinda each patient is different.

Always talk to your doctor before you start taking any supplements or medicines and you may see ads on TV for new Fibromyalgia drugs and treatments.  But Dr. Lemmer says medicine is not the main treatment for the problem.

He says, “They can help themselves by managing stress and managing sleep and getting regular exercise.“

A very real disease for Cinda one she says took a whole body approach

Crawford also says she watches her stress levels and activity levels.  She also credits her healing to “energy medicine”.. which is broken down into at least a dozen different alternative therapies.  According to the national center for complimentary and alternative medicine.  The forms you may recognize the most include acupuncture, magnetic therapy and light therapy.  The idea behind the techniques is to balance the body’s energy for relief from illness.
