Lead fears in dental crowns, bridges made overseas

Toys aren’t the only item parents needs to worry about having lead in them.

Dental crowns made in China are showing up with lead in them as well.

The FDA requires crowns and other dental restorations made in the U.S. to be lead free, but about 15% of these dental appliances are outsourced to lower cost countries.
An Ohio woman recently filed a lawsuit against her dentist for installing a lead tainted bridge.

Here’s what you need to ask your dentist, before getting work done:

• If the doctor doesn’t make the appliances, ask where the lab he or she uses is located, and whether it outsources overseas
• Ask what materials will be used
• Ask if there will be documentation
