A physician in the Lynchburg area has been named the president of the Medical Society of Virginia for the second year in a row.

Dr. Daniel Carey was inaugurated as the group’s lead officer last month during its annual meeting at The Homestead. He follows Dr. Tom Eppes of Forest as president.

Carey, a cardiologist, had most recently served as president-elect of the medical group and as president of the Medical Society of Virginia Foundation board of directors.

He also led the medical society’s efforts on medical liability, chairing the Medical Liability Advisory Group from 2008-09, according to a news release issued this week about his appointment.

Carey is medical director of the cardiac catheterization lab at the Centra Stroobants Heart Center. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardio-vascular Angiography and Interventions.

The Medical Society of Virginia is the professional associa-tion for physicians in the com-monwealth. Dedicated to supporting physicians in the practice of medicine, MSV advocates on their behalf to ensure physician influence on health care legislation and policy improvements and provides a variety of educational and support activities that assist physicians in the practice of medicine.
