A new iPhone means distractions

I’ve been trying to work, but it’s folly. The new iPhone is just too interesting. Eventually, it will make me more productive, taking e-mail with me, and keeping track of my calendar etc. But today, it’s all about Miley Cyrus.

Please don’t take this as an endorsement for an iPhone. It’s waaay to early for that.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m as excited about my new phone as any guy who ever obtained a new piece of shiny, blinking electronic gadgetry. Throw in bonus points for instant YouTube.
I’ve never watched a Miley Cyrus video. But this morning as I was making coffee and playing with the iPhone I suddenly found myself watching the pop princess’ latest video.
I mean, there I am in the kitchen with the dog looking up at me, holding a carafe full of water in one hand and the phone in the other. No coffee would be brewed until I had my fill of Miley in 2’ x 3” of HD dancing and singing.
It’s not that I like Miley so much, as the fact that this can be done. On a phone.
I finished brewing the coffee and watched some guy playing his guitar, and various other “most watched” videos.
Much of the past 48 hours has been spent in similar fashion, as I try to figure out how to navigate the controls, which despite their intuitive design are often baffling to my 48-year old mind.
Despite that, I am learning to type, use the touch screen to pan, and zoom, and shortly I will have photos and songs and movies – on my phone.
An endorsement may be forthcoming after I’ve had it for a few months. But like I said, I’ve got more exploring to do.
In fact – at some point I should see if it actually makes calls.
