Making a weekly dinner menu, my saving grace

Have you ever gotten home from work and asked yourself, “What should I make for dinner”? I have, far too many times. Several years ago, a friend of mine told me she made a list—a menu of sorts—of each night’s meal. She raved about how easy it made life.

I tried it. It worked really well. Especially considering—at the time—my now husband and I were not yet married. Some nights we’d have dinner at his place, some nights at mine. That made it even harder because inevitably, one of us would forget to take something out of the freezer to thaw or one of us wouldn’t have all the ingredients to make a particular meal. At the time, I listed each day of the week and who’s house we’d be having dinner at, along with the meal.

I know it probably sounds really particular but it helped in so many way. We always knew ahead of time who had to get things going or get something out of the freezer. It helped us stay organized. It made grocery shopping a whole lot easier and also helped keep us eating in and not eating out so often. We didn’t have to day, “Oh, I didn’t take anything out of the freezer, let’s go out.“ That also meant we ate far healthier meals than we did when we ran to get something out after a long day at work.

Who knows, maybe it will work for you too… Plus it’s kind of fun having the list out too see what’s for dinner in the coming days. It makes what might normally be a little monotonous, a little less so. It was easier for me type them up when I first started making the list but these days when I am scrounging to find a o net of free time… I sometimes jot down the list sitting at a red light. Here’s a look a one menu I have saved on my computer. Try it… you might like it too.
