Why the President of Zimbabwe could keep College Football from a Playoff!

  The Drive:
The BCS looks like it is headed for another meltdown, and I for one, can’t wait. Too much money—not enough “transparency” (Do I sound like I’m running for office now!)…and clearly..the fans are not being considered here. In point of fact, they are being tortured. President Elect Obama has promised to throw his weight around to get this thing fixed—-yes..even he wants a playoff. Let’s hope he can get to it. I fully understand that he’s got lots of more important issues to deal with, but maybe at the end of a week around 4:55 pm, he can pencil use in./Fix the college football mess/Set up a playoff/solve global warming/Meet the President of Zimbabwe. Hopefully Robert Mugabe doesn’t keep the President too long. We can’t take much more of this.

  The Fairway:
This might be one of my favorite high school football seasons ever. The level of play, the wild finishes, our local coaches. Good stuff. Hats off to Winfred Beale and the Buffs for going for two against George Wythe as the region semi came to a close in Floyd Co. Great drama-great stuff—and fun to watch. We get a Salem-Pulaski Co. rematch this week, for a region title. Awesome. Amherst Co, back to it again. New Coach..same juggernaut. They could make it three in a row. Brookville—-love that team.  Houston is one of my favorites…if only because I get to say…”Houston…we DON’T have a problem….we have a TOUCHDOWN!  I’m also very impressed with Jefferson Forest and Head Coach Don Rice. Into the playoffs for the first time since 1999…the Cavs are making the best of it….Overtime win over Turner Ashby—great stuff!.
  The Green:
Are we paying attention to all the Hokies making good in the NFL this year?  Impact stuff. Brandon Flowers is tearing it up for the Chiefs. X and Duane Brown in Houston are making names. And the receivers—-Eddie Royal in Denver, Josh Morgan in San Francisco! I probably knew Brandon the best while he was here, he was one of my favorites. Always upbeat, always up for the challenge. When I was getting my credentials at Florida State I ran into his sister. She credentialed me! Brandon, being from South Florida, always carried that chip with him. I don’t know if the ‘Canes weren’t interested, or he wasn’t interested in them, or both…but I know that game always meant a ton to him and did he ever step up in the Orange Bowl a couple of years back.

  The Jar:
Some congrats on the way out—-Megan Marsico of Glenvar, our latest distance animal, totally dominates the state cross-country scene. Catherine White..for totally dominating the SEC! SEC Cross-Country athlete of the year.  VMI…..for running roughshod over the once mighty Wildcats of Kentucky, at Rupp no less. Chip Sullivan, for advancing to the final round of Q school qualifying. It is..hands down..the toughes
