Peanut butter salmonella outbreak
As we report daily updates regarding the peanut butter salmonella scare I feel frustrated as a consumer. When the FDA comes out today saying things like “...there’s no question we need to make changes, we’ve got to change the way we do food safety.“ I mean really how many salmonella outbreaks are we going to go through before people can trust that the food we feed ourselves and our families is not going to make us sick?
For the longest time I avoided spinach because of the salmonella scare there… I still don’t eat it much anymore and it used to be one of my favorites for salads… tomatoes… we all spent I can’t remember how long trying to determine if we could or couldn’t eat a grape tomato or a roma tomato… Again I don’t buy a lot of tomatoes anymore… now its a long and I mean long list of peanut butter products… and with each major recall it seems a stigma is attached to that particular food item…
It makes you wonder why on earth companies aren’t required to share internal lab testing results of their product!? Why did it take so long for something to be done about it!? These are all questions everyone is asking and I believe the FDA and CDC are doing their best to answer those questions… in the meantime I have been avoiding anything “questionable” - I do however appreciate the companies that make their own peanut butter stuff “in house” and have taken it upon themselves to let us know their food items are safe… I would rather eat something I know is safe than take the chance that one of my cupboard items will end up on the FDA’s recall list tomorrow…
