The Martinsville Bulletin allowed 10 On Your Side to make a copy of the 911 call from the neighbor of Ronnie Carter Sr.

Henry County sheriff’s investigators believe Carter gunned down his wife and eldest son sometime last Saturday.

Police believe he then lured his youngest son, Timothy, home from Radford University and shot him twice.

Timothy Carter later told investigators he played dead after getting shot, buying him time to run to a neighbor’s home to call for help.

The 911 call from the neighbor, Deborah Akers, reveals at first, Akers didn’t recognize Timothy Carter, telling the dispatcher he was a woman.

“She’s insisting on coming inside the house but we don’t know what’s going on,“ Akers told the dispatcher.

Akers also told the dispatcher she thought the “woman” had been cut.

A few minutes later Akers can be heard telling the dispatcher the “woman” outside told her her father had wounded her.

The dispatcher eventually figured out Timothy Carter was a man.

Akers figured out he was her neighbor and let him in.

Out of breath and terrified, Carter confirmed to the dispatcher his father had shot him, killed his mother, and killed his older brother.

“He can shoot me from here,“ Carter told the dispatcher before the Akers agreed to let him in their home.  “I don’t want to be shot again.“

Moments later, the dispatcher can be heard telling paramedics to “back off” since no one knew where Timothy Carter’s father was, or if he was still shooting.

“I don’t know [the model of the gun],“ Carter told the dispatcher.  “I know it’s a big gun.“

Police believe Ronnie Carter Sr. shot himself shortly after setting fire to his home.

Court records reveal investigators found his gun between his legs.

As soon as a deputy got to Timothy Carter, dispatchers signaled paramedics.

At least word, he was in fair condition at a Winston-Salem, North Carolina hospital.
