Appalachian Power asks for 3rd rate hike
APCO claims if approved, the rate hike would equal an increase of 55 cents per day for the average customer
I’ll have what APCO had to say to some tough questioned I posed about the cost of these rate hikes to people, tonight on WSLS at 6:00 p.m.
3:55 p.m.
Appalachian Power is asking the State Corporation Commission to allow the power company to increases its rates for a third time this year.
At a news conference in Roanoke Wednesday afternoon, APCO president Dana Waldo said if approved, the higher rate would cost the “average customer” about 55 cents more per day, and would equal a roughly 19% increase.
That adds up to about $15 more per month, and $170 more per year on the “average customer’s” electric bill.
Waldo said that APCO’s rates on an inflation adjusted basis are lower than they were in 1983.
This new rate hike request is in additional to APCO’s requests for a fuel rate hike, as well as hike in APCO’s environmental and reliability surcharge.

WHAT ARE THE EXECUTIVES OF THIS COMPANY THINKING (OR ARE THEY?)??? THERE HAVE BEEN MORE LAYOFFS AND MORE FORECLOSURES SO HOW ARE PEOPLE SUPPOSED TO KEEP UP? A LOT OF US CAN BARELY KEEP OUR HEADS ABOVE WATER AS IT IS, AND AEP IS ADDING WEIGHT TO OUR ANKLES AND PULLING US UNDER!!
THIS IS JUST BS! Increase here… Increase there, oh now your bill is 300 bucks.. oh we’re sorry you cant pay it? no power for you. something needs to be done to stop this! 55 cents a day equals out being roughly 18 bucks extra a month. I’ve tried to switch power company’s but its more because AEP will charge you a service fee each mponth which is about 100 bucks so u can use another provider. Thought we had a MONOPLY law
AEP can ask all they want for an increase.. It’s the people that approve it that I want replaced. Local government can always so NO ! But, do they ? Ever ?? We need to change the people that make the final decison !!
I CANT AFFORD MY BILL AS IT IS. MY BILL HAS MORE THAN DOUBLED FOR THE SAME AMOUNT OF ELECTRICTY.
