Ashley Customers may not get whole order filled

Some customers are still out of luck, when it comes to getting merchandise they ordered from a local business.
The independently owned “Ashley Furniture Homestore” in Roanoke closed its doors last month.
As we reported *last week*... Ashley Furniture, which makes furniture for the store, started contacting customers and hopes to make deliveries within six weeks.
The company finished those calls, but that doesn’t mean those deliveries will be as customers first ordered them.
Phillip Alexander is one of the many ‘Ashley Furniture Homestore” customers who paid for furniture—but is still waiting for it to be delivered.
Among the 9-thousand dollars worth of furniture he ordered more than 4 months ago—a bunk bed.
It was supposed to be for his son’s birthday—which has now come and gone.
Phillip Alexander says, “ My son is sleeping on a mattress on the floor cause his bunk bed isn’t there.“
The Baker Group, headed up by Corey Baker, independently owns stores in Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia.
His stores shut down last month—a sign notified customers that the stores would remain closed while undergoing ownership changes.
Still no word on what those ownership changes might be - or when the stores could reopen.
Ashley Furniture said it would act as a good samaritan and work to fill furniture orders.
Alexander got a call from Ashley saying his furniture will be delivered on October 25th.
Even though Ashley, in an effort to fill orders, has contacted customers at all Ashley locations, including the one in Roanoke, it’s not legally obligated to do so. Nor is it obligated to fill any orders of furniture and accessories (some pillows, rugs etc.) it doesn’t make, so, customers like Alexander could still lose out.
That’s exactly what’s happening.
Alexender says, “Of course they already said I’m going to be a loss at some things probably between $500 and 1,000 that I won’t receive.  It’s aggravating, 5 months into it now, and i’m still frustrated.“
Alexander says, at this point, he and his family will likely just deal with the losses.
He says going to small claims court may be too much trouble than it’s worth.
And, as for that bunk bed that was supposed to be for his son’s birthday—well, he says it will probably end up becoming a Christmas gift.
When we spoke with Ashley Furniture today, a spokesperson did tell us that the company will cover one-year warranties.
And, it says that it’s too early to tell how many orders the company will fill, or how much it will cost them.
