Bane family niece talks about shattered dreams

A niece of Wythe County murder victim Joe Bane spoke Wednesday afternoon of shattered dreams.

Candise Hinkley, whose father is Joe Bane’s brother-in-law, said the family is obviously saddened, shocked, and seeking justice the man police say murdered Bane, Doug Jaccard.

“[Joe Bane] was just a heart-felt guy,“ Hinkley said Wednesday from outside her Franklin County home.  “If he could help somebody then he would take a notion to do it.“

Hinkley said the Banes moved into their new home on Dyer Road in the Barren Springs community of Wythe County a few years ago never imagining the trouble Jaccard would later bring.

Hinkley said Bane thought of it as a “dream come true.“

She said she woke up Wednesday morning “hoping this was a nightmare” but realized it was not.

“I’m not the type of person to wish bad things on people but I definitely want to see justice done,“ Hinkley said.

Co-workers of Bane at Radford’s Danaher Motion are donating their Christmas bonuses to the Bane family.
