Brownlee raises cash for AG race

America’s economy may be struggling, but the quest for campaign cash proves to be bountiful.

John Brownlee, the former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia, says he’s raised nearly $100,000 a little more than a month after announcing he would run for the Republican nomination for Virginia’s Attorney General in 2009.  Brownlee’s campaign reported raisingthe money during the first 40 days of his campaign, to the State Board of Elections.

Campaign financial reports for the first half of the year are due today (Tuesday, July 15th) at the State Board of Elections.

Del. Brian J. Moran, an Alexandria Democrat, reported last week that he has raised $1.38 million, including almost $400,000 from a political committee he controls.

Moran is seeking the Democratic nomination to run for governor.

Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling says he raised $443,000 in the first half of this year and has $664,000 in cash on hand for his re-election campaign in 2009.

Bolling, a Republican, was elected lieutenant governor in 2005.

He initially planned to run for governor next year but deferred to Attorney General Bob McDonnell.
