The Buena Vista community mourns the loss of a teenager who was well-known for his personality. Over the weekend, 15-year-old Victor Clark was killed in a hunting accident, but on Monday, people gathered to remember him and help comfort the family.

The only lights that shone on the football field at Parry McCluer High School on Monday night were candles- each one a thought and memory of Clark.

Everybody gathered on the same football field where the #27 player used to run among a cheering crowd.

On Monday, that crowd listened to somber music as the tears flowed down their faces.

“There’s not one person in the community who doesn’t know who Victor is. I don’t think there’s one person in the community who doesn’t love him like his own brother,” said Harlie Dale, a friend of Victor.

The freshman was sure to keep his classmates laughing by singing the oldies.

“All those old songs he would sing during class like the ones our parents would make us listen to,” smiled Carmen Cullen.

He was an energetic red-head who was easy to spot.

“You just see that little ball of red running down the hallway and you know there he goes,” Dale said.

The family was comforted with hugs and prayers as students released balloons into the air.

“I’m here because I love Victor and his family, and they need it,” said Ashley Fitzgerald.

Cullen added, “He never said anything meant to hurt somebody and if he did, he always tried to fix it.“

In a last goodbye, everybody gathered to form a “V” on the football field. On any other day that could stand for “vibrant” or “valiant,” but on Monday night it was all for Victor- victorious in friendship.

“We’ll remember number 27 forever,” Dale said.
