6th District Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-Roanoke) named a Botetourt County couple as “Angels in Adoption.“
Congressman Goodlatte chose Vic and Linda Sisson from Fincastle for the honor. The Sissons will attend a banquet in Washington, D.C. that honors a nominee from each congressional district who is “is making a difference in the lives of children through adoption,“ according to a news release from Congressman Goodlatte’s office.
“The “Angels in Adoption” campaign is an opportunity to raise awareness about adoption and honor individuals like Vic and Linda Sisson for their dedication to the care of children,” Goodlatte said in the news release. “The Sissons, through service in foster care and through adoption, have shown that ordinary people can do extraordinary things in the lives of others. They are certainly more than deserving of recognition,” Goodlatte added.
The Sisson’s story began when their children moved out of the house, and that “empty nest” feeling led the couple to open their home to children in need. They became foster parents, and took in Robert, Arianna, and Travis.
When they started, the Sissons believed the children’s time with them would be short, and the children would be adopted quickly. However, five years and meeting with prospective parents passed, but the chemistry never felt right, according to the release.
Then, the couple decided to adopt the three children themselves, with Linda Sisson saying, “God was on our side when he gave us these children.“
