Firefighters call it “spaghetti” training and you might’ve noticed it over the past few days at the Roanoke Civic Center.
Roanoke firefighters are training on the “relay system”, or relaying water from a hydrant to a “supply truck” and then to an “attack pumper”.
The system is employed to fight larger fires where no hydrants are in close proximity or any hydrants on hand are have pressure too low to adequately fight the fire.
At peak, some “attack” pumpers can pour 1,600 gallons of water on a fire per minute.
Firefighters said the training would continue in the Civic Center parking lot for the next several days.
