The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office believes Jeffrey Shifflett shot himself.  Officers do not suspect foul play.

The Sheriff’s Office tells me it received a 911 call around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, from Shifflett’s address on Turner Branch Road.

A family member found Shifflett dead.

The body has been taken to the Medical Examiner’s office.

The Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke says former Hardy Fire Chief Jeffrey Shifflett is dead.

Shifflett’s death comes one day after a Bedford County grand jury indicted Shifflett on 13 charges of embezzlement, and one of forgery.

The Medical Examiner’s Office could not say how Shifflett died.

More information as it becomes available.
