All flash flood warnings have been cancelled.  Flood Warnings for continued flooding along streams and creeks are in effect until 6:45 p.m. for Halifax and Pittsylvania Counties and the city of Danville and until 7:00 p.m. Appomattox, Charlotte and eastern Campbell Counties.

A Flood Warning has been issued for the Dan River at South Boston.  The river is expected to rise above flood stage late Saturday afternoon and crest Saturday evening.  Flooding along the river is expected to end Sunday morning.

The National Weather Service says the Flash Flood Watch for Amherst Co., Appomattox Co., Campbell Co., Charlotte Co., Halifax Co., and Pittsylvania Co. will remain in effect until 8:00 p.m.

The National Hurricane Center’s (NHC) latest update has the center of circulation for Tropical Storm Hanna located near Emporia, Virginia.  The storm’s winds are 50 MPH, and Hanna is moving north/northeast at 24 MPH.  The NHC says the storm is beginning to move faster than before.

The National Weather Service extends the Flash Flood Warning for Danville, Halifax Co., & Pittsylvania Co. until 12:45 p.m.

Storm Team 10 Live VIPIR radar shows the heavy rains from Tropical Storm Hanna moving further east of the WSLS viewing area.  Most of the heavy rains are east of the Route 29 corridor, and expected to be just showers within the next half an hour.

Heaviest rain bands are moving east, and are expected to turn to mostly shwoers within the next hour.

VDOT says Route 601 is closed n Halifax County due to floodings.  Route 615 in Campbell County has re-opened, following a downed tree blocking the road.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for:

  • Halifax Co. & Pittsylvania Co. until 9:45 a.m.
  • Charlotte Co. until 11:30 a.m.
  • Appomattox & Campbell Co. until 11:45 a.m.

Heavy bands of rain from Tropical Storm Hanna are falling in the eastern part of the WSLS viewing area, along the Route 29 corridor as Storm Team 10 forecasted Friday.

The National Weather Service says around 4:27 a.m., Halifax County/South Boston authorities reported flooding along Railroad Avenue in South Boston, due to an overflowing creek.

Storm Team 10 meteorologists will be doing weather cut-in updates on WSLS starting at 6:00 a.m.

4:00 a.m.

Hanna moves over land.  Hanna made landfall around 3:20 am Saturday near the border between North Carolina and South Carolina.  Closer to home, a Flash Flood Warning is in effect for Halifax County and southeastern Pittsylvania County including the city of Danville until 9:45am Saturday.

2:00 a.m.

Hanna expected to make landfall soon.  As of 2:00 am, Tropical Storm Hanna’s center is located 30 miles south of Myrtle Beach, SC moving northwestward at 21 mph.  Closer to home, a steady moderate to heavy rain is moving into parts of Pittsylvania, Halifax, and Charlotte Counties.

11:55 p.m.
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Tropical Storm Hanna is expected to
come ashore with gusty winds and heavy rains early Saturday between
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Wilmington, North Carolina.
    At 11 p.m. the storm had top sustained winds near 70
miles-per-hour and was centered about 140 miles south Wilmington,
moving north at about 20 miles-per-hour. A hurricane watch is in
effect for Edisto (ED’-ihs-stoh) Beach, South Carolina, to the
Outer Banks of North Carolina near the Virginia line.
    The storm is expected to head up the Eastern seaboard through
the weekend dumping as much as 10 inches of rain in places.
    But it’s Hurricane Ike that has people really worried. It’s a
powerful Category Three hurricane and could barrel into Florida by
midweek.

The outer bands of Tropical Storm Hanna are causing showers across much of our area.

So far, no reports of flash flooding.  The area most in danger is east of Route 29.

Hanna has not made landfall along the southeast coast yet.

4:54 p.m. Friday

The National Hurricane Center’s latest forecast still has Hanna predicted to make landfall between northern South Carolina and Southeastern North Carolina tonight.

In Virginia:

  • The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Watch for parts of Southeastern Virginia until 5:00 a.m. Saturday
  • The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Watch for: Amherst Co., Appomattox Co., Campbell Co., Charlotte Co., Halifax Co., Pittsylvania Co. from 2:00 a.m. Saturday through Saturday evening


From Storm Team 10 - Rainfall expected for our area:

  • East of Route 29 corridor: 1-4 inches
  • From Blue Ridge Mountains east to Route 29: .50-1 inch
  • West of Blue Ridge Mountains: Less than half an inch
